Purpose

This privacy policy governs your use of the software application Alum (“Application”) for mobile devices that was created by Alum, Inc.. Alum is an alumni relations platform and private social networking service for official correspondence and community engagement amongst schools and their graduates. Alumni can use Alum to contribute content and sift through media, people, places and employers within their trusted community.

Age Limitations

Authorized users are technically 18+ years of age as they are confirmed, high school graduates. To the extent prohibited by applicable law, Alum does not allow use of our Services and Websites by anyone younger than 16 years old. If you learn that anyone younger than 16 has unlawfully provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information.

Information Collection Practices

Customer Data

Customers or individuals granted access to a School Workspace (via Alum ID) by a Customer (“Authorized Users”) routinely submit Customer Data to Alum when using the Services. Other Information. Alum also collects, generates and/or receives Other Information: School and Account Information. To create or update a School account, you or your Customer (e.g., your employer) supply Alum with an email address, password, domain and/or similar account details. For details on School Workspace creation, contact [email protected] In addition, Customers that purchase a paid version of the Services provide Alum (or its payment processors) with billing details such as credit card information, banking information and/or a billing address

Services Metadata

When an Authorized User interacts with the Services, metadata is generated that provides additional context about the way Authorized Users work. For example, Alum logs the places, networks, people, features, content and links you interact with, the types of files shared and what Third Party Services are used (if any).

Log data

As with most websites and technology services delivered over the Internet, our servers automatically collect information when you access or use our Websites or Services and record it in log files. This log data may include the Internet Protocol (IP) address, the address of the web page visited before using the Website or Services, browser type and settings, the date and time the Services were used, information about browser configuration and plugins, language preferences and cookie data.

Device information

Alum collects information about devices accessing the Services, including type of device, what operating system is used, device settings, application IDs, unique device identifiers and crash data. Whether we collect some or all of this Other Information often depends on the type of device used and its settings.

Location information

We receive information from you, your School and other third-parties that helps us approximate your location. We may, for example, use a business address submitted by your school, or an IP address received from your browser or device to determine approximate location. Alum may also collect location information from devices in accordance with the consent process provided by your device.

When you are invite to and register with us and use Alum, you generally provide (a) your name, email address, age, user name, password and other registration information to personalize your past and future profiles.

We may also use the information you provided us to contact your from time to time for feedback, to provide you with important information, required notices and marketing promotions.

Information Collected Automatically

In addition, Alum may collect certain information automatically, including, but not limited to, the type of mobile device you use, your mobile devices unique device ID, the IP address of your mobile device, your mobile operating system, the type of mobile Internet browsers you use, and information about the way you use Alum.

Do third parties see and/or have access to information obtained by Alum?

We will not share your personal information with any third parties without your consent, unless required by a lawful order, to provide information or any such assistance to Government Agencies who are lawfully authorised for investigative, protective, cyber security activity, in furtherance of any statutory obligations that We may have. We may disclose User Provided and Automatically Collected Information: as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, or similar legal process; when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request; with our trusted services providers who work on our behalf, do not have an independent use of the information we disclose to them, and have agreed to adhere to the rules set forth in this privacy statement. if Alum, Inc. is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, you will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on our Web site of any change in ownership or uses of this information, as well as any choices you may have regarding this information.

What are my opt-out rights?

You can stop all collection of information by Alum easily by uninstalling Alum. You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network. You can also request to opt-out via email, at [email protected]

Data Retention Policy, Managing Your Information

We will retain User Provided data for as long as you use Alum and for a reasonable time thereafter. We will retain Automatically Collected information for up to 24 months and thereafter may store it in aggregate. If you’d like us to delete User Provided Data that you have provided via Alum, please contact us at [email protected] and we will respond in a reasonable time. Please note that some or all of the User Provided Data may be required in order for Alum to function properly.

Security

We are concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. We provide physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect information we process and maintain. For example, we limit access to this information to authorized employees and contractors who need to know that information in order to operate, develop or improve our Application. Please be aware that, although we endeavor provide reasonable security for information we process and maintain, no security system can prevent all potential security breaches.

Changes

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time for any reason. We will notify you of any changes to our Privacy Policy by posting the new Privacy Policy here and informing you via email or text message. By using Alum, you are consenting to our processing of your information as set forth in this Privacy Policy now and as amended by us. "Processing,” means using cookies on a computer/hand held device or using or touching information in any way, including, but not limited to, collecting, storing, deleting, using, combining and disclosing information, all of which activities will take place in the United States. If you reside outside the United States your information will be transferred, processed and stored there under United States privacy standards.
